Improve Fertility Naturally with a Perfect Sleep Plan
Rest is essential for your body to replenish, regenerate, and improve your fertility naturally. Rest is the most powerful anti-inflammatory out there.
When you rest, your core body temperature drops, and critical cellular repair processes kick in that are essential for your body’s ongoing recovery from daily life.
Sleep is nature’s most powerful medicine. Period.
In Ayurveda, sleep has regenerative, earthy, building, fertility-promoting Kapha qualities. When you sleep, you reduce Vata (air/ether) qualities in your body.
For people with Vata constitution or a Vata imbalance, it’s extra important to keep a consistent sleep schedule to counteract more airy-fairy type qualities many of us inherently have or get exacerbated by our modern lifestyles 🌈 ☁️ 🦄.
If fact, the only time your body secretes growth hormone is during deep, restorative REM sleep. Growth hormone is not only a massive boost for egg quality, it also accelerates the repair and regeneration of microcapillaries.
Microcapillaries are tiny blood vessels - just big enough for a single blood cell to pass through. Microcapillaries supply your follicles with oxygen, nutrients, hormones, and pretty much everything they need to grow and nurture a healthy egg.
Sleep also supports healthy mood and hormonal pulses. Yes, hormones are pulsed! How freaking cool is that? For example, high FSH is nothing more than a rapid, out of sync pulse.
So not only is sleep itself important, but your sleep rhythm is WAY more important. Axelrad shares that your sleep rhythm is so important it’s your third heartbeat - the other two being your actual heartbeat and your breath.
Therefore, regulating your sleep rhythm is one of the most powerful ways to bring balance to hormonal rhythms including FSH, and LH, which form the basis of healthy ovulation.
Quality Sleep is:
Hormone balancing
Anti-inflammatory
Growth promoting
Critical for maintaining a healthy body weight
Necessary for healing PCOS
Key for improving your fertility naturally
The Perfect Sleep Plan for Improving Your Fertility Naturally
Do all your pre-sleep routine stuff (brushing teeth, removing make-up, getting into pj’s)
Get in bed at 9:30 pm.
Make sure all electronics are turned off or in silent mode. This includes phones, tablets, e-readers and TV.
Also turn off all bright overhead lighting. A reading lamp is all you’ll need.
Get some inspirational reading material. Whatever works for you. Just make sure it’s uplifting.
Read for about 10 minutes, then close the book, turn out the lights, and lie down to sleep.
Do sama vritti breath. Equal in breaths equal out-breaths.
Start at the number 50 and count backwards from 50 to 1 - counting a number on each out-breath.
If you don’t fall asleep after the first 50, just start back over at 50 again. Keep counting and breathing, letting all your muscles relax.
Within 20 minutes you will likely be asleep. If not, just stay in the dark and rest. This is the best thing you can do for your body, mind, and hormonal balance.
What if I need to or like to stay up late working?
It’s better to keep your bedtime the same and wake up EARLIER. Your hormonal rhythm is much less upset by waking up early thani it is by going to sleep late.
Also, if you find that you are constantly staying up late, you have to make a choice. What’s more important, work and money and status or having your baby?
Sometimes you think you want something, but how you are living says otherwise.
What if I tend to wake up in the middle of the night?
The best thing is to simply stay in bed, in the dark, and rest. Don’t turn on any lights, don’t start looking at your phone or TV. Just rest.
If your mind is racing, use Sama Vritti breath to calm your mind and focus back on gentle, relaxed breathing.
What if it takes a while for me to fall asleep?
That’s fine. Again, just stay in the dark and rest. Learn how to be still. Let your body enjoy the cool, dark, quiet space. It’s a gift.
